How to get more MOT bookings

Make your MOT offer clear, remove booking friction and bring existing customers back without overpromising availability.

The short answer

Connect Google visitors directly to a useful MOT page, provide a short booking request or reliable live slots, and confirm appointments against real capacity. Use lawful reminders for returning customers and measure completed bookings rather than clicks.

Answer the questions before asking for a booking

State which vehicle classes you test, the real location, the current price and any conditions on offers. Explain arrival, how the customer receives the result and any wait or collection arrangements based on your operation.

Do not imply a guaranteed pass or say repairs are included when they are not. If you offer servicing alongside an MOT, explain that they are different services so customers can make an informed choice.

Keep the first request short

A useful enquiry usually needs a name, contact method, vehicle registration, service and preferred date. Keep it readable on a phone and give a clear acknowledgement after submission. Ask for diagnostic detail only where it helps the job.

A preferred date is not a confirmed appointment if the website is not connected to your diary. Label it as a request and explain how confirmation happens. Only state a response time that your team can actually meet.

Make returning customers’ next booking easier

Keep accurate service records and agree a suitable reminder process. Check UK privacy and electronic marketing requirements before sending emails or texts; promotional messages are not automatically permitted because someone once used the garage.

A reminder should lead directly to the relevant page and provide the required way to stop further messages. Measure your own results rather than quoting unsupported open-rate or conversion statistics.

Check the diary before increasing demand

Look for missed calls, unmonitored requests and unavailable appointment times. Marketing cannot fix an overfilled diary or an inbox nobody checks. Make sure someone owns confirmation and follow-up.

Measure cancellations, enquiry-to-booking rate and completed MOTs. Compare similar periods and record staffing or capacity changes before attributing every increase to the website.
