The short answer
Start with an accurate Google Business Profile, useful pages for the work you actually offer, genuine reviews and an obvious way to call or request a booking. Track enquiries and completed jobs, not just visits. No website can guarantee a position in Google.
1. Fix the information customers see first
Check your name, address, phone, opening hours and website link against the details on your site. Update special hours before bank holidays. Choose the most specific available category that describes your main business, and only add other categories that genuinely apply.
Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance and prominence. You can improve accurate information and trust, but you cannot move your workshop closer to every searcher or pay for better organic local ranking.
2. Give each important service a useful page
An MOT customer, a driver with a warning light and someone considering a restoration have different questions. Explain what each service covers, which vehicles you accept, how to enquire and what happens next. Show a price only when you can honour it, and say when an inspection is needed before a quote.
Use original workshop photographs and real examples with permission. Explain symptoms, diagnosis and completed work rather than filling a page with invented testimonials, certifications or client projects.
3. Ask for honest reviews
After completed work, invite customers to leave honest feedback using your Google review link. Ask consistently rather than only approaching customers you expect to give five stars. Do not offer discounts, gifts or other incentives for reviews.
Reply calmly to feedback without revealing vehicle registrations, invoices or personal details. Where a complaint needs a fuller conversation, offer a private contact route. Genuine evidence is more useful than a copied thank-you message.
4. Measure the enquiries that become work
Record where an enquiry came from, what service it concerned and whether it became a booked job. Compare website forms, phone enquiries and Business Profile interactions. Remove spam and your own tests before judging results.
If visits increase but bookings do not, test the mobile journey before creating more content. Hidden contact details, unclear vehicle coverage and long forms can stop a useful visit becoming an enquiry.
